Student Representative

Candidate: Aafrin Zahid Memon

It has been proven time and time again, the power of inclusivity and diversity and with that purpose in consideration, I Aafrin Zahid Memon am committed to making sure that every voice in our college community is recognized and respected as a candidate for СÖíÓ°ÊÓStudent Board. Bringing to you the assurance with my candidacy to effectively represent your concerns and affect positive change. 

With a strong background in event planning and my dedication to listening to the concerns of my peers. Whether it's organizing social or representative events, I'm dedicated to making a lasting impression and attending to any issues you might face. In order to make sure that the students’ opinions are heard at the highest level, as a potential member of the student council, my goal would be to present the Board of Governors with a student viewpoint

Candidate: Chloe Archuleta

Translated from my Indigenous language; Hello and greetings! My name is Chloe Archuleta in Anishinaabemowin. I'm currently in my second year of the Sports Science program at СÖíÓ°ÊÓ.

As I step forward as a candidate for the esteemed role of Student Representative on the College Board, my commitment lies in fostering a campus community that cherishes and supports every individual, irrespective of their background or identity. With a heart dedicated to the welfare of all students, including international students, domestic students, and those from diverse cultural backgrounds, I pledge to serve as a steadfast advocate for inclusivity and equity.

My platform revolves around nurturing an environment where every student feels valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. I will prioritize initiatives that promote cross-cultural understanding, celebrate diversity, and provide resources tailored to meet
the unique needs of each student demographic. From advocating for accessible support services to bringing awareness on important days of significance, I am dedicated to championing the voices of all students and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone on campus.

Together, let us embrace our differences as strengths, and work collaboratively to create a campus community where every student—regardless of nationality, race, or background—feels embraced, supported, and empowered to succeed. With your trust

Candidate: Josefa Valdes Vera

Hello fellow Students, Staff, and Faculty. My name is Josefa Valdes, and I am running as a candidate to be one of the Student Representative for the College Board 2024-2025. Having served as the NW Student Representative for the Education Council over the past year, I have witnessed the importance of having a student voice present to make sure that our academic needs are being met. Now I’m eager to expand my impact and contribute to a different position. I’m excited to learn more and provide my help more strategically. I seek to be a support for the СÖíÓ°ÊÓ Community to erase barriers in educational policies and be a strategic leader, so current and future СÖíÓ°ÊÓ students can get the best out of post-secondary. 

I am a fourth-year student in the BBA Management program, seeking a double concentration in HR and Financial Services. Throughout my journey at Douglas, I have worked part-time for the Future Students’ Office as a Student Recruitment Supporter, a 
position that has given me valuable skills in leadership, public speaking, and decisionmaking; besides skills, I have gained knowledge about СÖíÓ°ÊÓ’s services, programs, and admission requirements. As a student, I have volunteered for different
programs including the SA Program, SWAN, Student Services Advisory Committee, Admission Advisory Committee and Education Council Student Representative 2023-2024. 

I believe by working together with the other board representatives, we can create an equitable educational environment for all.

Candidate: Nithin Rajendran

I'm Nithin Rajendran, and I'm running for the College Board. I'm very involved in the СÖíÓ°ÊÓcommunity, and I've worked as a Student Assistant in Student Life, a Student Ambassador with the Future Student Office, and currently, I'm the New West Representative with the СÖíÓ°ÊÓStudents' Union. I also sit on the Education Council at СÖíÓ°ÊÓ. 

I love connecting with people, and I think I can be a solid bridge between students and faculty. I've been in various roles, so I know the ins and outs of our college community pretty well.If elected, my top priority will be to enhance the student experience on campus. This includes providing more opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities and ensuring that the needs of students are being met. In addition, I believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students. This means advocating for diversity and inclusion and creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds to come together and learn from one another.
